Hello, Delaware

Relive Retro is now set up at Aunt Margaret’s Antique Mall in Newark, DE. The mall offers two floors of fine antiques, primitives, vintage items and collectibles. You can spend hours searching for a missing item for your collection, a replacement piece to a set, or something unique for a gift.

From URL to IRL: Relive Retro’s Journey to Aunt Margaret’s

Operating online has its advantages. VintageVideoGame.com allowed us to connect with collectors around the world, far beyond our New York roots. When life brought us to Delaware, our online presence came with us.

But digital reach can never fully replace something physical. A place where history lives in front of you. A place where stories are shared in real time. A place where community forms naturally.

That is what led us to Aunt Margaret’s Antique Mall.

Our goal was simple. We wanted to gain real-world experience while growing Relive Retro in a thoughtful, sustainable way. Aunt Margaret’s offered exactly that. It provided a welcoming environment where we could begin building a physical presence without overextending ourselves.

From the moment I stepped inside, I felt it. Margaret and the other dealers made me feel at home immediately. What stood out most was the incredible range of visitors. Kids, college students, longtime collectors. People from every generation exploring and rediscovering pieces of the past. The sheer variety of treasures makes it nearly impossible to see everything in a single visit.

How it Happened

In fall 2023, I first spoke with Margaret about renting a space. During our conversation, she shared the building’s history. The structure began as a church in the 1940s. It later became the Newark Police Department in 1973 before transitioning into retail space in 1993. Aunt Margaret’s Antique Mall officially opened on July 5, 2010, and has since become an award-winning destination and a favorite among Newark locals and students alike.

I shared my own story with her. Childhood weekends spent helping my parents and grandfather run flea market tables and antique booths across New York and Pennsylvania. Those early experiences shaped my appreciation for vintage items and the stories they carry.

At the time, no space was available. I added my name to the waiting list, knowing it might take time, and returned my focus to our online work.

Aunt Margaret’s Antique Mall is housed in one of Newark’s most historic buildings. Originally constructed as a church in the 1940s, the building was later converted into the Newark Police Department in 1973, serving the city in that role until 1993. It was subsequently repurposed for retail use, and on July 5, 2010, Aunt Margaret’s Antique Mall officially opened its doors.

Today, it stands as an award-winning destination in Delaware and is recognized as a “favorite for Newark natives and college-aged antiques enthusiasts,” according to Delaware Today

Then in spring 2024, Margaret reached out. A cabinet on the first floor had opened.

I knew immediately. This was our moment.

One of my favorite memories was bringing my wife Emily to see the empty cabinet for the first time. We stood there imagining what it could become. Soon after, seeing it filled with the carefully selected pieces that represent Relive Retro felt like the beginning of something special.

Meeting Our Community, One Conversation at a Time

Since joining Aunt Margaret’s in June 2024, what began as a single cabinet on the first floor quickly grew into something more. Today, you can find Relive Retro not only in our original cabinet, but also in a large display in the front lobby and an additional space in a converted closet on the lower level. As our presence expanded, so did my involvement. I now work behind the register two Sundays each month, giving me the opportunity to be part of the daily rhythm of the mall.

The shift from online transactions to real conversations has been refreshing. It moves at a slower pace than conventions, but that is what makes it meaningful. It creates space to connect with people, hear their memories, and understand why these objects matter to them.

Some visitors are lifelong collectors, eager to share stories and knowledge. Others are discovering vintage for the first time, drawn in by curiosity and nostalgia. Every conversation reinforces why Relive Retro exists. We are here to give the past a future by helping its stories live on.
